quick reminders about Greek mythology:
- Persephone is black/has dark skin
- Haphaestus is disabled and has some mental illness(es)

- Persephone is scarier/more widely feared than Hades ever was

- Since Persephone is woc it follows that at least one of her parents (Zeus and/or Demeter) is also poc

The amount of bullshit is hella strong here. Okay, I admit, there are true informations here but to not know them you have to not have contact with european culture at all or be a moron without basic education. The main problem with this post is interpretation of the religion and myths in ourdays and most probably tumblr-american way and thinking there is only one true version of myths. Persephone and Gaia poc? Yeah, sure, white people would imagine the personifications of natural forces in poc way even if the poc they’ve seen were slaves or barbarians (for those who don’t know – the barbarian for Greeks was a person who didn’t share Greek culture, religion and language). Of fucking course. Hephaestus had a mental illness? Bitch where??? If being grumpy and loner counts, congratulations, you just self-diagnosied a lot of healthy people. Hades disabled? Have you ever seen disabled person or you’re just mistaking Hades with his nephew? Asexual, bisexual, nonbinary… – what the fuck? Ancient Greeks had no fucking idea about such terms. Not having any sexual partner isn’t a proof of being asexual. Asexuals even can have sex and enjoy it in some way, do you have an idea?? Banging a guy isn’t a proof for being gay/be, especially in greek culture in which having a male lover was some kind of fashion and a way to create important social bonds. Also the gay myths were most probably created later, to justify homosexual contacts which became popular in Greek culture, especially in Athens. I won’t defend rapists (btw, not only Zeus nor Poseidon but also Hades in some versions of myths, Hermes, Apollo and a lot of other fucking males here and I’d probably found some females but I’m not sure here) but what we treat as a rape today could be treaten completely different by ancient Greeks. Not to mention that there’s strong and popular theory that rapes in the mythology are the proofs of rivalizations between old and new religions in which rape is the symbol of old ones becoming submitive to the new ones.
Mythology isn’t a book you can just read and interprate the fuck you want. It’s the echo of thousands years of the culture and religion of people who used to live and thought about themselves as Greeks in this example. Treating Homer or Hesiod literally is the same as treating literally the Bible. Using the culture the way you like to is the same thing we all critizie here but reversed – when popculture takes elements from the cultures (mostly poc buuut cross for example anyone?? vampires??) and remakes them to match the fashion. How would you like if people on tumblr took smth from YOUR culture and interprate it the way they like to? Or look at your life and know better than you about yourself?
Do not believe tumblr. It’s a shitty place. A lot of toxic people write here and try to convice you they are wise and nice etc. No. They’re just the second side of the mirror. Do not believe facts written here. Yes, do not believe things I’ve said except that “do not treat and judge people the way you want but the way they think”. Take the sources in your own hands and read them with thinking.
